Haggin named 2009 King of Mardi Gras Krewe of Wrecks

John B. Haggin, Team Owner of the World Champion Miss GEICO Racing Team, and the 2008 recipient of Powerboat Magazine's illustrious Viking Spirit Award, has been selected as the 2009 King of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Wrecks. This years celebration will again take place at Blood River Landing in Springfield, Louisiana on February 20-22, 2009.
Last years recipient, Ken Warby, owner of the world speed record of 317.60 mph set on October 8, 1978 in Blowering Dam, New South Wales, Australia, is honored to be handing off his treasured crown to his dear and close friend, John Haggin. "John Haggin not only has single handedly brought back the sport of offshore racing by assembling the largest and most professional offshore racing team in the world but he has also financially supported the smaller classes of racers."

The Miss GEICO Racing Team is the three time defending World Champion and will be starting the racing season off in Biloxi, Mississippi on March 26-29, 2009 with the unveiling of its new 50' Mystic with 3700 hp.

Accompanying Haggin to help celebrate this prestigious honor will be pilot, Marc Granet, and throttleman, Scotty Begovich. "We wouldn't miss this opportunity to support and cheer on our visionary", said Marc Granet. "From the World's fastest man to the World's Best Team Owner', echoed Scotty Begovich.

I am truly honored to accept this award and will do my best to serve as the King and follow in the footsteps of my hero, Ken Warby", said John Haggin when he learned of his latest award.
